Chiptunes are one of my favorite genres of music, and you nailed this one.

Mattashi responds:

Thanks!

This sounds extremely strongly inspired by the music from Studio Ghibli films. I get it's not going to be long, but I wish this lasted for 3 minutes or so...

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

I like the Ghibli films, and it's a compliment for this to be compared to their music. That said this piece wasn't inpired by anything specific.
The reason for the length is that this was never supposed to be a full piece to begin with :)

Love the percussion in this one, pretty well-done. The melodies have a bit of variation, but could use a slightly sharper sound. The drop is not a normal drop and well-done, which makes it that much better. However, I heard a lack of baseline variation, that could use some work. I can't decide whether the intro, the drop, or right after the drop were the best parts of this song, but they were definitely the best parts of it.

When what sounds like the main melody comes in, it's too loud, it needs to be a bit quieter up until the drop. The drop was pretty nice. The variation for the melodies is pretty good. Not quite sure about the variation for the base, but the it feels like you used the same percussion throughout the song. The ending feels like it would've been better with a base chord for emphasis on 'this is the end'.

The transitions feel unprecedented, and could be smoothed over some. That saw you use throughout the song needs to be a little quieter, or the melody needs to be a little louder so it's more distinctive during those parts. You also could use a bit more variation throughout the song.

Whyyyyyyyyyy..... whyyyyy would you do this.....

It feels like a melody from one of your previous songs at about 3:27. I really like everything here, definitely better than your last track IMO. :D

Geoplex responds:

Huh, I hadn't picked up on that - it's definitely possible :P

Two things... Fist, how do you get your sounds not to sound like crap going that fast. Secondly, this is probably one of your best songs.

The kick feels a bit loud around the start of the song. Otherwise, this is pretty awesome! :)

IMO, your percussion is a bit too loud and sharp sounding at the start. The baseline sounds are much smoother than for carbon, nice job there. I certainly get the "nitrogen" feeling until it changes up at about halfway. I hear nice bits of variation throughout the song, which is nice. The ending was kinda awkward IMO, I heard it start to fade off, get louder again, and then start to fade off again, and then die completely. You may or may not want to look into that. I'd put this slightly better than carbon in overall quality.

SirHadoken responds:

Thank you! :D
I really do appreciate that you've taken time to write these reviews on my songs, because it lets me know if I'm headed in the right direction or not, and in what places I need to work on, and in what places I don't need to change.
I don't know if you've realized this, but the change in quality from Helium to this song here, significant, though not entirely large, was made entirely possible just by your constructive criticism and the constructive criticism of maybe two or three other people. It means more than you think that you're willing to point out what I need to improve on consistently with everything I release. I can't thank you enough for it, and I'm improving because of it. :)
